What to decide first, what can wait, and the four questions that prevent most disputes with vendors abroad.
Most destination wedding problems are ordering problems. People book the vendor they fell in love with, then discover the legal process adds two months, or that the venue's quiet season is their only free week.
1. Legal status first. Decide where you will be *legally* married. Many couples complete the paperwork at home and hold the ceremony abroad — simpler, and it removes a residency or document requirement from the critical path. 2. Date window, then weather. Pick a two-week window, then check the dry/rainy season for that country. Shoulder season saves real money if you accept the risk. 3. Venue. It sets your guest count, and the guest count sets everything else. 4. Photography. The best studios close peak weekends earliest. 5. Makeup, hair, dress. Priced per person — they follow the guest count, not the other way round. 6. Everything else. Booths, cakes, flowers, mobile bars. These rarely sell out.
Ask every vendor, in writing, before paying anything:
Every listing on VOWTOYOU answers the first three before you message anyone, and the chat is translated so the fourth does not get lost in a second language.
During our beta we do not hold your payment. You pay the vendor directly and they confirm the deposit in the app. That means refunds follow the cancellation policy printed on the listing and are settled with the vendor — so read that policy before you transfer anything. We would rather say this plainly than let you assume a protection that is not there yet.
